F29 Bicycle highway
Brussels-Leuven
The ‘Werken aan de Ring’ programme aims to provide better cycling infrastructure. We are building safe bicycle paths and comfortable bicycle bridges and tunnels. They will enable you to cycle quickly and smoothly along and across the Ring. In this way we can offer road users a proper alternative to the car and gradually reduce the number of cars on the Ring. The construction of the F29 bicycle highway, together with a new cycle and pedestrian bridge over Vieramen section, is part of this ambition.
Better bicycle connection between Brussels, Tervuren, Bertem and Leuven
The construction of the F29 bicycle highway will provide a fast, safe and comfortable connection between Brussels, Tervuren, Bertem and Leuven. The future bicycle highway will connect local neighbourhoods, and the construction of bicycle tunnels and bridges will prevent hazardous intersections for pedestrians, cars and public transport. Those that stand out the most are the bicycle and pedestrian bridge over the Vierarmen junction and the cable bridge over the E40.
We re-laid the bicycle path between Brussels and the Vierarmen junction in Tervuren in the summer of 2022 with a temporary semi-paved surface. We are currently building the bicycle bridge that we will place over the hazardous Vierarmen junction in Tervuren in spring 2024. Starting in early 2024, we commenced further construction of the bicycle highway between Tervuren, Bertem and Leuven.
