Why was Vlierkensstraat given a make-over?

The refurbishment of Vlierkensstraat is part of the construction of the Ringtrambus route (bus line 820). The Ringtrambus passes there in the direction of Grimbergen (Strombeek-Bever) and Brussels (Heizel and UZ Brussel Jette). The Ringtrambus will stop twice in this neighbourhood: 'stop Vilvoorde Kassei' at Hoppinpunt Kassei along Rubensstraat/Vuurkruisenlaan and 'stop Ensor' near the green square between Vlierkensstraat and Albert I-laan. The Minnemolen stop was replaced by the Ensor stop, thus moving up about 75m to Albert I avenue. Cyclists can also move effortlessly here thanks to the construction of a two-way bike path on the north side of the lane (even house numbers side). With the redevelopment, we are ensuring both reliable services and easily accessible and pleasant bus stop environments.

'Vilvoorde Kassei' stop

This stop will be an important link where various cycle routes and bus lines come together. We will provide a safe crossing for slow traffic on the Rubensstraat (at the Schilderspad) and optimise the  accessibility of the Drie Fonteinen park. The entire new stop infrastructure with free bus lanes will be constructed as part of the redevelopment of the Heldenplein.

Kassei 'Hop-in' point

In addition to the construction of various cycling highways in the neighbourhood and the planned redesign of the HeldenpleinKassei Hop-in point near the 'Vilvoorde Kassei' bus stop is an important link in the sustainable mobility network.
