Completing and trench work in the Leonard junction

The missing connections at the Leonard junction will be completed and it will all be rebuilt underground as much as possible.

Since the end of the 1990s, when a number of ground-level left turns were closed off for safety reasons, the Leonard junction has been incomplete. To avoid the structural traffic jams and missing exits at the Leonard junction, road users look for other routes through the residential areas of Overijse and Hoeilaart. Completing the junction is therefore seen as a way to free up the congestion and 'rat-running' in the region.

Another problem at the Leonard junction is the layout of the roads themselves. The current layout is intended to ensure smooth traffic towards the centre of Brussels, but in reality the traffic primarily passes between the E411 and the R0 in the direction of Zaventem.

We propose broadening this traffic flow, with a larger bend so that it becomes safer and smoother. In addition, as many of the other traffic flows at the junction as possible will be relocated underground, so that the forest can come together again.

At this moment, the Agentschap Wegen en Verkeer is renovating the Leonardtunnel. More info via this link (dutch).
