A safer, quicker and compact Vierarmen junction

The Vierarmen junction will be redeveloped so that the traffic flows will be smoother during rush hours. The Vierarmen junction has long been notorious for the lengthy traffic jams that occur during rush hours.

One of the causes of these structural traffic jams is the complexity of the junction. As the Tervurenlaan is split into a northern and southern axis, the Vierarmen junction actually consists of two smaller junctions right next to each other. As a result, traffic grinds to a halt at busy times.

By constructing the two axes directly opposite each other, traffic in the junction will flow more smoothly. Provided there is enough space for merging traffic, the traffic in the Tervurenlaan going in the direction of Brussels can be handled on 2 times 1 lane.

The redevelopment of the junction has also prompted construction of a cycle bridge for the bicycle highway F29.
