Seventh edition of Cycling Heroes

Eight cycling heroes commuted to work by bike for six weeks. Eef, Frédéric, Ann, Nathan, Kristof, Wendy, Carolien and Nick braved wind and rain with sustainable mobility in mind. Together, these heroes cycled nearly 6,000 km. They shared their experiences on their social media and we did too, through our Werken aan de Ring Facebook and Instagram channels.

More flexibility, time savings, relaxation, adding movement to your day, avoiding traffic jams and clearing your head The benefits of taking your bike to work are countless. Find out why our Cycling Heroes joined the campaign in the video (only in Dutch):

These are the routes they travelled to and from work:

Find out who they are:

Wendy

"I signed up for Cycling Heroes because I want to support the initiative to cycle to work as much as possible. You arrive at work or back home completely relaxed."

Nick

"I wanted to get acquainted with this mode of transport and find out if it is a good transport mode for me to commute to work."

Nathan

"To show to my colleagues that it is possible to come to work by bike. To challenge myself and have fun."

Kristof

"Cycling is actually a bit of therapy for me. It clears my thoughts for a bit, and relaxes me. Alone or together with friends who share the same passion."

frédéric

"It's actually a win-win. You have to go to work anyway and this way you are working on your health while you do it. I really look forward to it."

eef

"I get more exercise in my day and avoid traffic jams. I think I spend as long on the road by bike as I sometimes spend in traffic jams by car."

Carolien

"I like cycling because I like being outdoors. It is relaxing to get outside and exercise after and also before work. The biggest advantage, I think, is that you get to Brussels much faster by bike than by car."

Ann

"Getting some fitness in the process is good for the body and mind. Those are the greatest benefits. The time savings with this are also likely to be significant over a few months."
