The Cycling Heroes of Werken aan de Ring

In 2018 we launched the first edition of the ‘Cycling Heroes’ campaign to raise awareness among Brussels area residents about their mobility behaviour. Since that time, we have completed our third edition.

How does it work?

We search for candidates who live and work in the Flemish Periphery around Brussels. We challenge them to leave the car at home for a few weeks and to commute to work using an e-bike instead.

They share their experiences and challenges on the Cycling Heroes Facebook page. In addition, they try to inspire as many of their colleagues, friends and family as they can to take the bike occasionally.

How can you become a candidate?

In 2020 we are launching a new campaign in which we will again be looking for new Cycling Heroes. They will not only challenge themselves, but will also challenge each other. Follow us on Facebook and be the first to hear about the new campaign!

A look back

We look back at the story of 19 committed Cycling Heroes. Together they cycled 10,000 kilometres and saved more than 3 tonnes of  CO2. We are especially proud of the participants because in the course of the campaigns 5 Cycling Heroes have purchased e-bikes, the purchase of a second car has been delayed, and a bicycle leasing scheme has been started by the employer of one of the Cycling Heroes. Cycling Heroes get things moving!
