The ‘Werken aan de Ring’ programme aims to provide better cycling infrastructure. We are building safe bicycle paths and comfortable bicycle bridges and tunnels. They will enable you to cycle quickly and smoothly along and across the Ring. In this way we can offer road users a proper alternative to the car and gradually reduce the number of cars on the Ring. The construction of the F212 bicycle highway is part of this ambition.

Smooth and fast cycling along the railway in Asse

In Asse, the F3 HST bicycle highway will run parallel to the Dendermonde-Jette railway lineF212. It will be a level, straight and fast connection, creating easy links between cycling and public transport. You ride into Brussels past the stations of Asse and Zellik, and the science park in the Pontbeeklaan.

This bicycle highway will be completed within the ‘Werken aan de Ring’ programme and will address the following points:

  • We are building two tunnels under the railway and the Brusselsesteenweg (N9): at Asse station and near the Walfergem school area

Near the Walfergem school environment, a tunnel will be constructed through which the bicycle highway can change sides, connecting the Groeningekouter and the Petrus Ascanusstraat. In this way, the school environment and adjacent residential areas are better and safer connected.

We keep the space under the tunnel open and well-arranged with a maximum of light. A gentle grass slope with stairs to the residential area gives the tunnel a green character. The straight bicycle highway is interspersed with wide bends that make cycling safe and comfortable.

At Asse station, a tunnel will be built under the tracks so that cyclists and pedestrians can pass safely. This tunnel provides a smooth connection to the Asphaltcosite under the N9 and the center of Asse. In addition, this bicycle tunnel connects the F212 and the F221. A tunnel with lots of light and greenery, which we keep fresh by collecting rainwater.

  • Next to the railway bridge over the Brusselsesteenweg (N9), we are building a bicycle bridge and next to the railway itself, we will construct a stretch of bicycle highway as far as Goede Luchtwijk.

Next to the railway bridge over the Brusselsesteenweg (N9), we are building a bicycle bridge.

There is a connection with bicycle highway F221 Opwijk - Merchtem - Asse, with the ring bicycle path part Dilbeek-Zellik and bicycle highway F211 Asse-Brussels via Zellik. In addition, the F212 runs past the station of Asse where you will find the Hoppinpunt Asse Station.

The project is currently under study.
